Why an EarlyAGE 2nd Language?

Research indicates that from ages 1 through 8 is the best time to introduce a new language to a child. If the 2nd language is introduced early in life children will learn it faster and retain it longer. Being exposed to a 2nd language offers numerous benefits to young children including an improved ability to communicate, better cognitive development, richer cultural awareness, improved academic performance, superior educational opportunities and, ultimately, better jobs. The earlier a child is exposed to a 2nd language the more likely they will speak it with native pronunciation. One recent study found that bilingual children learn to read sooner than their single language counterparts, have increased creative skills and become proficient problem solvers. Another study indicated that bilingual children also performed better on math and verbal sections of standardized tests than single language children. Perhaps these are just a few of the reasons that teaching Spanish is becoming popular in many childcare centers and preschools.

Valencia Holidays – Alicante, Benidorm & Valencia Holiday Attractions

Valencia is famous for its magnificent orange groves and some of the best beaches in Spain. Most popular are the beaches around the holiday destinations of Alicante and Benidorm on the Costa Blanca, and the region’s capital Valencia on the Costa del Azahar.

Valencia can be found on the eastern coast of Spain and is bordered by the regions of Catalonia, Aragon, Castilla la Mancha and Murcia. The official languages of the region are Castilian Spanish, which everyone is required to know by law throughout Spain under the Spanish Constitution of 1978, and also Valencia, which is similar to Catalan but under a different name.

Costa Blanca
Costa Blanca is known as the ‘White Coast’ as it offers miles of fine sandy beaches and a brilliant light, dry, hot climate. The main tourist resorts here are Benidorm and Alicante, although other popular holiday destinations include Gandia with a wonderful 14th century palace, and Altea offering traditional Spanish houses and a thriving artistic community.

Costa del Azahar
Costa del Azahar begins at the Tarragona provincial border and travels south for 112km covering some beautiful beaches overlooked by orchards of olives and oranges. For this reason, it is also known as the Orange Blossom Coast. Popular coastal resorts include Pescola with its medieval castle that was featured in the film ‘El Cid’, and Sagunto offering many Roman artefacts and sites including a 2nd century Roman Amphitheatre.

Alicante Holiday Attractions


Alicante is well known on the tourism trail and a great destination for those wanting a traditional beach holiday. The weather is fantastic with hot summers and mild winters and the city offers an abundance of gardens, parks and squares from which to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. There are many wide palm-lined avenues providing an unlimited shopping experience from the large department stores like Corte Ingls, to fashionable boutiques and souvenir shops. Every street corner in Alicante bustles with holiday activity with holidaymakers perusing the many shops selling local ceramic, marble, leather and wooden produce.

Benidorm Holiday Attractions
Despite the worst excesses brought upon the city by package tourism, Benidorm delivers very well for the package holidaymaker. The two main beaches Playa de Poniente and the Playa de Levante are over 5km long in total and offer enough space for everyone. The bars and restaurants are in sufficient supply and with over 30 discos on offer; nightlife in Benidorm is lively to suit all tastes. The attractive Balcon del Mediterranean set in the middle of the two beaches, has spectacular views of both beaches and also its island lying just offshore.
Spanish school Valencia
Benidorm is surrounded by mountains as high as over 1,500 metres and these keep the cooler north winds at bay to give the city warm temperatures even during the Winter months when temperatures stay mild. Just 7 kilometres down the coast lies the small town of Altea. A change from bustling Benidorm, Altea offers a traditional community with a preserved old quarter that attracts many artists because of its wonderful light.

Valencia Holiday Attractions
Valencia lies on the Costa del Azahar and is the third largest city in Spain. It is an industrial city with a medium-sized port, but the local government is working hard to improve the city’s image to tourism. One example of this is the recent completion of the new City of Arts and Sciences Complex.

Surrounding the city is the fertile plain called the Huerta where orange trees grow in abundance as does rice, which is, used for Valencia’s legendary dish the paella. Most of the produce of the Huerta comes to the 1,000 colourful stalls of the modernist Mercado Central. Built in the early 20th century, it is an eight-sided iron girder and glass building which contains one of the largest markets in Europe. Well worth a visit even if you’re not planning on buying anything.

Want to learn to speak Spanish fast? It’s possible, but you need to be committed and have a goal. This article will outline three steps to learning to speak not just Spanish but any new language fast.

When learning a new language things can get frustrating. Especially if you’re trying to learn it quickly because of an upcoming vacation or business trip. I’ve put together a resource list of three things you can do to learn to Speak Spanish Fast.

Chances are you’re aware of them all, but keep them in mind while you’re learning and you should be speaking well enough to communicate when the time is needed.

Set a Goal for How Well you Want to Speak

It’s an old saying, how do you know how to get somewhere when you don’t know where you’re going. This holds true for language learning as it does for most education and goals.

When learning Spanish you need to have a short term goal in mind. How well do you want to be able to speak? Do you just want to be able to ask important phrases in Spanish when you’re in the air port, at a restaurant etc. Or do you want to become fluent in Spanish as a second language.

Knowing how well you want to learn Spanish will help you choose which way you learn as well as how much time you need to spend at learning Spanish each day.

Choose the right form of Spanish Lessons to Meet your Goal

So, the next best options are private tutors or classes, as well as software and audio courses to learn from home.

The quality of software programs has come a long way, and many of them will teach you just as well as a tutor could for less money and on your own time. Not to mention you will have the software to refer to if need be in your travels.

I’d suggest choosing a quality audio or software Spanish course based on your learning goals. Some are better suited to learning important phrases fast, while others are a longer term learning situation with multiple volumes.

Spend time with it Each Day

Probably the most difficult step is staying committed to your course. You know your goal, you have the right software or course to teach you, now you just need to stick to the plan.

For some reason most of us fall down here. Try not to think about learning Spanish as this long journey. Take it one day at a time where you learn a new phrase or two. Increase your vocabulary, or pick up some new grammar.

Enjoy the ride on learning Spanish, don’t worry about the final result while you’re learning. The best way to do this is to commit an hour or so each and every day to studying Spanish. This will get you to your goal without feeling over whelming. It’s also a good amount of time for our brains to remember what we learn, but not to much to over whelm us.

Exploring the best ways to learn Spanish from the point of view of three different students.

The best way to learn how to speak Spanish is easy – it’s whatever the best way is for you to learn Spanish, not the way someone else learns. Different people learn in different ways, so be sure to choose the teaching method that suits your learning style. Once you solve that learning style problem, learning how and when to study can be easy.

Let’s look at three learning styles of three different Spanish language pupils: Francesca, Don, and Dolores.

Classroom Style

Francesca wants to learn how to speak Spanish for an upcoming vacation in Mexico. She likes to learn in a traditional classroom setting, with an instructor teaching a group of students. She doesn’t have a college degree, but she have taken many college classes because that’s the way she learns. The best way for Francesca to learn Spanish is to enroll in an adult education Spanish class where she can get the organized instruction that helps her learn.

Independent Study

Don is a contractor who wants to learn how to speak Spanish so he can communicate with all of his workers. Don is a big fan of independent study. Don is too busy to go to school and sit in a classroom, and his schedule is too hectic to guarantee that he will be able to make it to class. Don has no way of knowing where he’ll be next Tuesday and Thursday, so it is no wonder he is unwilling to commit to Thursday afternoon Spanish classes.

The best way for Don to learn Spanish is on his own. He can get Spanish language CDs that he can listen to in his car. By listening to the spoken phrases and repeating them aloud, Don will learn Spanish using his own learning style at his own pace.

Immersion

Dolores is a grandmother who wants to learn how to speak Spanish so she can do volunteer work with immigrant children. She learns by doing, so the best way for Dolores to learn to speak Spanish is to immerse herself in the language as it is spoken by natives.

One easy way for Dolores to learn Spanish is for her to watch Spanish language soap operas, or telenovellas on Spanish-speaking cable or satellite TV stations. Destinos is one popular telenovella. Characters on Destinos speak slowly and clearly and use lots of dramatic hand gestures that will help Dolores figure out what’s going on.

Spanish Immersion – the Most Effective Way to Learn Spanish

This article highlights the benefits of learning Spanish by means of taking an immersion course.

What Percent of People Speak Spanish in the UsIf you are interested in learning Spanish, and money is no object, then the fastest and most effective way to do this is probably through Spanish immersion. There are a wide variety of programs available to people who are interested in trying this option out. They are available in many Spanish speaking countries as well as some non-Spanish speaking countries, such as the United States.

The reason that it is so effective to learn Spanish through a Spanish immersion program is that you are only allowed to speak Spanish in these programs. All of the classes are conducted in Spanish, and you are requested to only speak in the language throughout the entire program. If you are taking a course in a Spanish speaking country you are usually also placed for at least part of the program with a Spanish speaking family. This way you get to hear the language being spoken as it is normally spoken in everyday life, rather than just how it is spoken in the classroom.

Some of these Spanish immersion programs can actually be quite affordable, but there is a wide range in prices, so those interested in giving this a try should definitely look around. Some of the programs can be very expensive. However, the more expensive programs will have some benefits that some of the less expensive programs do not.

List of Countries that Speak SpanishThe instructors will be more likely to have college degrees, and their may be more high tech options to supplement the classroom instruction. Usually these programs offer either one on one instruction or very small classes of less than 10 students. The extra personal attention helps make it easier to learn Spanish than it would be with larger classes that are more common in universities and schools.

While you will be going into a Spanish immersion program in order to learn Spanish, you won’t be spending all of your time in the classroom, so consider this when you choose a program and pick one near other attractions that you would like to visit during your spare time. This way you can get some extra enjoyment out of your trip as well as learning Spanish.

The shorter language immersion programs that only last for a week or two will not give you as much improvement in your language skills as the longer programs, but they will still be helpful and give you a great opportunity to use and improve on your current skills.

Spanish proverbs came about just like any other proverb. Leaders, rulers, and writers would write catchy phrases about good judgement decisions widely accepted as common sense. They wrote simple and trendy phrases so they could easily be remembered. Here are some of the most common proverbs in Spanish.

(To leisurely youth, laborious old age.) "Enjoy it while you’re young." may be another translation. This means that when you age, you aren’t as agile in the future to do what you once could. Any elderly person will testify to that.

Acabndose el dinero, se termina la amistad.
(Running out of money, the friendship ends.) Find out who your real friends are. Basically a lot of people only like you because of what you have to offer them. (Escape from loneliness, you give them money, you’re good company, cars, a job) Very few people love you for who you are unconditionally.

Ms vale poco y bueno que mucho y malo. (It is worth more little and good than much and bad.) Something’s better than nothing. You might not have a lot, but too much could be a bad thing. Too much of a good thing is bad. Moderation in all things. These are all translations for this proverb.

Mejor solo que mal acompaado. (Better alone than poorly accompanied.) It’s better to walk alone than with bad company. You’d never want to be around someone who makes you miserable. You’d probably rather be by yourself.

Poco a poco se anda lejos. (Little by little one goes far.) By an inch it’s a cinch, by a yard it’s hard. The race of a thousand miles begins with a single step. A journey begins with a single step. Take your tasks little by little. You’ll see that those little improvements and accomplishments add up quickly.
